Diploma in TESOL

This program consists of 3 modules. This program will teach you the fundamental principles of language acquisition for each age group and the tools based on those concepts. It will include theories of second and foreign language acquisition for each age group and fundamental research in second language acquisition and its pedagogical consequences. This program covers extensive practicum to allow you to put what you've learned into practice.

Program Content

Module 1

This course focuses on basics of classroom teaching with various methods used in early year’s vs new methods. It also includes standard eight principles of teaching as well as context of learning and teaching ranging across various age levels, proficiency levels as well as across cultural and sociopolitical contexts. This course is fundamental base for teaching in classroom and various methods and approaches.

Module 2

This course focuses on basics of effective classroom management and usage of technology to make it more effective. It also covers teaching language in classroom: grammar, reading, writing and vocabulary.

Module 3

This course focuses on creating curriculum, lesson planning and effective professional development for English language teachers.

Program Duration Hours: 140 hours (7 weeks) & 30 hours of practicum

In the Classroom

Admission

1. Bachelor degree in any area.

2. Language proficiency requirements: For Nonnative English Speakers or who has qualifications from non-native English speaking countries English Language Proficiency is demonstrated by submitting IELTS Academic score of 6.5 in overall or equivalent

Duration

In class - 420 hours (23 weeks) Practicum - 80 hours (approximately 8 weeks)

Total: 500 hours (31 weeks)

Objectives

  • Students who complete this course should have the knowledge and skills to teach English to speakers of other languages(ESL) and can use a range of teaching approaches to help students of all ages improve their English skills, including young children, adolescents and adults

  • This program provides participants with the hands-on experience, theory, and training to become fully qualified English as Second Language Teachers in Canada

  • You will qualify as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language in Canada after completing our practicum.

Globalization has cemented English's position as the de facto "lingua franca". The need for English education grows in tandem with the growth of worldwide communication. This program covers the psychological aspects and learning strategies of learning English for every age group. This course assists students in becoming a certified TESOL instructor, which provides the students with more job opportunities. 

Fraser Coastal International College will provide TESOL diploma, which is approved by PTIB. The diploma serves as confirmation that you are certified to teach English as a second language in British Columbia, Canada.

Upon completion, you can choose other courses at our school to continue your studies

Online ESL teacher

You can also apply for memberships of other TESOL organizations in Canada or other countries should you need them. However, you might have to receive their training courses and certification procedures before being accepted.
